Authentication
Getting into UNIT: how you are invited, how your account is created, how you sign in, and what recovery actually requires.
Chapter Overview
Two things make authentication on UNIT different from most services, and both are worth knowing before you start rather than after.
You are invited, not signed up
The invite screen puts it in five words: "Unit is invited, not signed up for." Registration begins with somebody else's username. You cannot create an account from nothing.
Your password is never stored
"Unit doesn't keep your password. Each sign-in derives your account fresh." Your email, password and PIN are the ingredients your account is derived from, not a lock checked against a stored copy.
That has one consequence that shapes this whole chapter: there is no password reset. The link labelled "Forgot password?" leads to a twelve-word recovery phrase screen, and that screen is candid about its limit — "If you don't have your phrase, we can't help you sign in."

Common Workflows
Join UNIT
Open your inviter's link, or type their username on the invite screen. Check their card, select Create Account, choose your sign-in method, and complete registration.
Sign in
Use the method you registered with — credentials, passkey or wallet — on the sign-in screen.
Recover access
Enter your twelve-word phrase on Restore Your Account. This is the only route back in, so read that page before you need it.
Look without an account
The sign-in screen offers "Just looking? Explore Unit". Browsing needs no account at all.
